All you need to write is passion, perseverance, and the desire to see your words in print. If you have stories to tell—images in your head, insightful ideas to share, and wonder in your heart—you can create entire worlds. You don’t have to have a degree to be a successful writer, and you don’t have to get an MFA. Storyville Studio was created in order to teach you the skills and techniques needed to become a successful writer. We are also providing you with a supportive community to cheer you on, all while reading contemporary work by the biggest and brightest names in the business. It’s important to study the masters in every genre you write, but it’s also essential to read the magazines and anthologies that are currently publishing and winning awards, as well as the authors that populate their pages. It is our goal to help you grow and evolve as an author, so that you can tell the stories that are important to you, and then get your writing out into the world where it can touch the lives of others.

Upcoming Classes

Adavanced creative writing workshop
January 1st, 2020

This class will focus on reading three “best of the year” anthologies. These stories have already been published in the top magazines, journals, and anthologies, and then have gone on to get additional recognition as the best in their genre/s. We’ll break the stories down, analyzing the content to figure out what works and what doesn’t.

Day of Reckoning
February 8th, 2020

Day of Reckoning is a one-day Skype session of seven classes that runs from 9-12 AM and then 1-5 PM CST. The sessions last for 45 minutes with a 15 minute break in-between (and an hour for lunch). Each month brings a different mix of instructors and classes. Richard Thomas will be moderating.

Only 4 spots left.

Self-Paced Instruction

Our self-paced instruction allows you to engage with the material at your convenience and their lower cost makes them a great introduction to the full courses.

Richard Thomas is an excellent teacher and a talented writer. His workshops help fiction writers to polish their craft and explore writing in new genres. Highly recommended.
